2-color separations Another approach to printing photographs with two inks is to make a separation set which provides color areas which in some way represent the colors in the original scene. This may be done in a way which attemps to show the same colors as in the photograph or it may be a stark departure from reality. Depending on the nature of the original colors, the results may have strong visual impact in either case. A photograph of a subject which has primarily only two strong colors which are complementary to each other may be reproduced looking very much like full-color.
The image on the left is full-color, while the one on the right is reproduced using only Pantone 286 and Pantone 1235.
